Action cards let you add, lose, trade and grab back ingredients, and cooking several dishes from one cuisine (American, Continental, French, Italian or Mexican) earns a bonus. Four deadly diseases are spreading around the world, and your team of specialists has to stop them. On your turn, spend up to four actions to fly between cities, treat infections, share knowledge, build research stations and collect matching cards to discover cures. Then the infection deck spreads more disease, and hidden Epidemic cards make things much worse. Cure all four diseases and everyone wins. Let outbreaks get out of hand, or run out of time, and everyone loses. A modern classic and one of the best ways into co-op games.Gobgob's favourite bit: Outbreaks. Let a city get too sick and the disease spills into every neighbouring city, which can set off a chain reaction round the globe. Gobgob rearranged the whole table. Totally legal. Very smug.Rummikub is the classic family tile game invented by Ephraim Hertzano, a bit like rummy but with numbered tiles instead of cards. There are 106 tiles: numbers 1 to 13 in four colours, two of each, plus two jokers. Lay down runs of one colour in number order, or groups of the same number in different colours, and be the first to empty your rack. Your very first play has to add up to at least 30 points. It won the Spiel des Jahres in 1980.Gobgob's favourite bit: Tiles already on the table are fair game. Break up other sets and rebuild them to squeeze your own tiles in.
